Solid laptop but software issues
Date:February 22, 2010
" I have purchased 3 of these in the last week and they are good little laptops, although the screen quality is only average and the touchpad mouse buttons are terrible.
The main issue with these laptops is the XP image that they come with has several problems, all of them gave errors after the initial startup that required HP software to be removed, and the drivers are all out of date and their image is still on XP Pro SP2. After updating to SP3 and updating all the essential drivers and removing the unwanted HP software they work well for business use.
Watch out for the Outlook addin that is there by default, it wasn't until I installed and ran Outlook that I noticed it.
I don't really understand why the XP image they use is so flaky, but I guess we are on to Windows 7 now so it's obviously not a priority to fix it.
Unsure about the review above that the user had an unrepairable electrical problem??? They come with a 1 year onsite warranty and even if there was an AC Problem that friend the power adaptor that is a cheap replacement. I cannot imagine why HP would not repair or replace faulty laptops unless they were mistreated or damaged physically. I hope someone at HP sees the review and reaches out to you.
Oh yeah, always buy at least 3 or 4 year CarePack for laptops. They almost always pay for themselves at least once over. "

Waste of Money
Date:January 22, 2010
" I bought two of these computers in May 2009. After 10 weeks of use, neither computer will boot. I've been told that it's an unfixable electrical failure. $4610.19NZ down the drain. "

Solid Laptop with a few little issues
Date:December 23, 2009
" Solid business laptop that covers all the bases.
My thoughts:
- Integrated WLAN/3G adapter is a brilliant option, no longer have to rely on easily damanged USB dongles
- Headphone jack placement is very poor. Jack is located on the front edge. Considering a common use of a laptop is on a person's lap, the potential for the headphone plug to jut into the owner's body could become annoying and may even cause damage to the jack, especially if the headphones in use don't have a right-angle connector.
- I don't like the power adapter. My previous laptop from a competing manufacturer had a beveled power adapter with a strap so I could wind the cords around the adapter and tie them down with the strap. This laptop's adapter is just a plain cuboid brick and only one of the cords has a velcro strap, which is far less convenient than my previous laptop's arrangement.
- There is a serial port on the right-hand side. I am an IT professional, so this is extremely useful for connecting to network devices for management -- I don't have to use an unreliable and easy-to-loose USB dongle.
- The various status LEDs are amazingly bright. They can be annoying when using the laptop at night or in low light.
Apart from the gripes mentioned above, it is a good laptop. It also looks very good, with the matte grey/black finish. "
